What is PRP/ PRF for Hair?
Hair restoration using PRP/PRF is a non-surgical option that promotes blood flow to hair follicles, supporting hair growth. These two treatments are primarily used to treat male and female pattern baldness, or androgenetic alopecia, by waking up dormant hair follicles and thickening thinning hair.
PRP and PRF both involve taking a blood sample, placing it in a centrifuge to isolate growth factors, and reinjecting it into thinning areas. PRP is spun at higher speeds and uses an anticoagulant to prevent clotting. The high concentration of platelets and growth factors is quickly released into the scalp.
PRF is a newer approach that is spun at a lower speed without anticoagulants. The slower spin allows the solution to retain the white blood cells, stem cells, and fibrin, which act as a natural scaffold. The growth factors are released slowly over days and weeks, resulting in longer-lasting stimulation.
